"The heavily pregnant wife, threatened with miscarriage was strapped to a hastily constructed bosuns stretcher and suspended to a flying fox.

Rigged with pulleys and guide lines, she was gingerly lowered from the bridge of the jinxed Alkimos across the 50 metre stretch of threateningly boisterous sea to awaiting 4WD ambulance on the wind strewn beach and rushed to hospital.

Despite the difficulties in negotiating the harsh and barren terrain, she subsequently lost the battle to save her unborn child.
